It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Salem Christopher Diop, who left us on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at the young age of 24. Born on Thursday, November 2, 2000 in the former Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston; he is the beloved son to Amy and Danny Walton of Kingston and Ebou and Isatou Njie.
Salem's journey began in Plains where Salem attended Coughlin High School. After moving to Kingston, he graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 2020.
After completing his education and earning his high school diploma, Salem embraced the service industry with his outgoing and sparkling personality, allowing him to flourish through his glowing smile and good looks. Presently, he was employed in the logistics department for the Procter & Gamble Company in Mehoopany. Salem touched the lives of those around him with a kindness that radiated through his gentle spirit and warm, loving smile.
In his spare time, he loved playing and watching sports, especially football and basketball. He was the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football teams’ biggest fan. His unrivaled energy and enthusiasm when watching his favorite teams was akin to him being a part of the action. He also enjoyed watching reality television shows and his long talks with his mother Amy. When he was younger, he loved the outdoors, truly enjoying the number of hiking and biking trips he would take with his father Danny. He enjoyed doting on and spoiling his sister Addison. He loved playing sports and video games, making music, and spending quality time with his brother Malik. He appreciated and enjoyed his time with Gram, who has been a constant in his life providing love and support.
We all remember Salem’s radiant smile, love of fashion, and his weekly fresh haircuts. He will live on in our memories and stories from all those whose lives he’s touched.
Tragically, Salem's story ended too soon. In this moment of sorrow, we are reminded of the importance of mental health awareness and checking in on our family and friends and making the most of our time with them.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Mr. Michael A. Nadzan.
Besides his parents, Amy & Danny Walton and Ebou & Isatou Njie, Salem will be greatly missed by his best friend and brother, Malik Diop; Sister, Addison Walton; Half-sisters; Rohey, Isha and Ruby; His beloved son Roman Weaver-Diop (Emily Weaver) of Tunkhannock; Maternal grandmother, Mrs. Christine Mihalick; Paternal grandparents, Mr. Arthur and Mrs. Sandra Walton, all of Plains Township; Several aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles, and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Salem's family on Wednesday, June 18th at the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home, 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. A service will start at 6:30 p.m. being led by Pastor Zach D. Lyon of the L.C.B.C. Church Wilkes-Barre Campus. We welcome everyone to share their reflections, stories, and love for Salem. He will be remembered not only for his outgoing personality and charm, but also for the light he brought into this world. May those who cherished Salem reflect on his life and legacy in their own meaningful ways. As we remember him, let us carry forward the love and compassion he exemplified, reminding ourselves to support one another in times of need.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family has respectfully requested that any monetary donations in Salem's memory be made to an account established for his young son Roman and is being managed by Roman’s Uncle Malik. Donations are requested as personal checks in Roman Weaver-Diop’s name or emails to uncmalik02@gmail.com for details on electronic donations. Salem Christopher Diop will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy will inspire compassion and connection in all who knew him. May he live on in our memories until we meet again in Heaven.
