Mrs. Sharon Lee (Hester) Tobin, 81, formerly of Powell Street, Plains Township, passed into eternal life peacefully the evening of Friday, August 11, 2023, while in the care of the Third Avenue Health and Rehabilitation Center, Kingston, where she recently resided.
Born on Monday, July 20, 1942, in Laurel Run Borough, she was a daughter to the late Daniel Vincent and Burneatta (Diaz) Hester. Educated in the city schools, she was a 1959 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Sharon was most commonly and affectionately known as "Shezz" by her family and friends.
Mrs. Tobin was formerly employed by the Department of Health and Human Services Social Security Administration in their Wilkes-Barre Data Operations Center. She began her tenure with the government as a key punch operator, working her way to supervisor at the time of her formal retirement in 2002, realizing thirty-five years of service.
Previously, just before turning seventeen, she took employment with Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania for eight years.
In her spare time, and having a keen appreciation for family lineage, she enjoyed tracing the family's genealogy, and was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Thomas M. "Toby" Tobin on December 2, 2018. At the time of Toby's passing, the couple shared thirty-seven years of married life together. Also preceding her were her grandmother, Florence Diaz; Sister, Gail Karazia; Brother, Danny Hester and most recently, her niece, Sandy Groszewski.
Left to cherish the memories they keep of her are her sisters, Patricia Wiggins of Port Hadlock, Washington and Linda Jones of Plains Township; Brother-in-law, Jim Tobin; Sister-in-law, Martha Hester; Several generations of nieces and nephews including her caregiver, John Karazia Sr., Gail Ann Murray, Theresa Davis, Danny Hester, Tammy Bourassa, Brad and Ben Wiggins, Brandy Manor, and her godchild, John Karazia Jr.
Shezz will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her in this life.
Sharon’s family would like to gratefully acknowledge her roommate, Denise and Sr. Annette, R.S.M along with several Sisters of Mercy for their friendship and concern, along with the staff of Third Avenue Health and Rehabilitation for their professionalism and care shown Shezzy while she was with them.
Funeral services for Sharon will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. Per her own request, interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family next to Toby in Saint Ignatius Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hoyt Street, Pringle.
Relatives and friends may join Sharon's family at the funeral home for visitation and shared remembrances Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
