We are saddened to announce the passing of a beloved aunt and friend. Mrs. Theresa H. (Krukowski) Petruska, 92, a former well-known resident of Madison Street in Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood; passed into eternal life the afternoon of Sunday, March 22nd while in the care of Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born on Monday, October 16, 1933 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of six children to the late John and Anna (Okrashinski) Krukowski. Educated in the city schools, she was a 1951 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Devoted to her Catholic faith, she previously held membership in Saint Stanislaus Kostka Parish, later becoming the former Parish of Saint And re Bessette of North Wilkes-Barre. She also attended Divine Liturgy with her late husband at Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, also of North Wilkes-Barre.
Until her retirement, Mrs. Petruska was employed as a seamstress by the valley's former garment industry. Professionally, she held membership in the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Fraternally, she was a member of the North End Slovak Citizens Club. Above all else, she is best remembered as being a loving wife, devoted mother and cherished aunt to her family. Her presence will be missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Petruska was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Myron P. Petruska on May 4, 1989. At the time of Mr. Petruska's passing, the couple shared thirty-one years of married life together. Sadly, she also bid farewell to the couple's only son, Mr. Myron P. Petruska Jr. on November 3, 2001 and by siblings including; Mr. Raymond Krukowski, Mrs. Lucy Sciandra, Mrs. Helen Petro and Mrs. Lillian Jutkiewicz.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Mr. Joseph Krukowski and his wife Patricia of Kendall Park, New Jersey, Several generations of nieces and nephews along with many dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Petruska will be conducted on Saturday morning, March 28th with her funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 215 Lackawanna Avenue, Dupont. Her great-nephew, the Reverend Thomas J. Petro, J.V., J.C.L., pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Dupont and Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca will serve as celebrant and homilist.
Entombment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary's Diocesan Roman Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.
Relatives and friends may join Mrs. Petruska's family for visitation and shared remembrances directly at church Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
