Miss Verna Zelesko, 92, formerly of Madison Street in Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, fell asleep in the Lord Tuesday morning while in the care of Allied Services Center City, where she resided the past few months.
Born December 18, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the youngest of ten children of the late Gregory and Mary (Kovac) Zeleznik.
Educated in the city schools, she was a member of the 1947 graduating class of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Until her retirement, Miss Zelesko was employed as a data entry clerk for the Social Security Administration's Data Operations Center in Wilkes-Barre for many years.
Devoted to her Byzantine Catholic faith, she was a life member of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre, where she was previously active with various church activities over the years.
She was preceded in death by sisters Helen and Mary Zelesko; by brothers Al, John, Joseph, Michael, George, and Charles Zelesko.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Mrs. Anne Saldutti of Middletown, New Jersey, several nieces and nephews including her caregiver and godson, Mr. Gregg R. Saldutti Sr. and his fiancée, Ms. Suzanne Preston of Hoboken, N.J.; Great-nephew, Gregg Saldutti Jr. and his wife Alexandra; Great-niece, Katelyn Saldutti and her husband Kenneth Sorensen and their daughter, Verna's great-great niece, Delta Sorensen.
Due to the current health crisis, funeral services for Miss Zelesko will be private and at the convenience of her family.  Interment with the Rite of Committal will be in the family lot of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Dallas.  The Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor, will serve as celebrant.
