William Barber Obituary

Mr. William P. "Bill" Barber, 66, a resident of Forty-Fort, passed unexpectedly early the morning of Thursday, December 12th while in the care of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, following a recent illness.

Born on Sunday, October 19, 1958 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of three children to the late William J. and Dorothy A. (Dzurovcin) Barber of North Wilkes-Barre.

Educated in the city schools, he was a 1976 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.  Bill furthered his education by taking college courses at the Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke.

He proudly served with the United States Army as a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard for some twenty-three years.

Bill held several positions over the years with the Inter-Metro Corporation of Wilkes-Barre, where he formally retired in 2020 as a fork lift operator.

After his tenure with Inter-Metro and being an avid golfer in his spare time, he enjoyed working as groundskeeper for the Hollenback Golf Club in Wilkes-Barre's Brookside neighborhood.

Proud of his Slovak heritage, Bill was an active member with the North End Slovak Citizens' Club, where he currently held a seat on the Board of Governors.  He was also associated with the Slovak Catholic Sokols.

He and his wife, the former Tammy L. Mills celebrated thirty-eight years of married life together on October 18th.

Besides his parents, Bill bid farewell to an infant brother James Barber; a nephew Caleb William Barber and his sister Miss Therese M. Barber on January 11, 2015.

Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they keep of him in addition to his beloved wife Tammy at home, are the couple's children, Shayne W. Barber and his wife Emily along with their daughter Kennedy of Camp Hill, PA; Rebecca Moon and her husband Steve of Bear Creek; Brother, Stephen M. Barber and his wife Judy of Kingston; Several nieces, nephews, fellow board members and dear friends.

A celebration of Bill's life will take place on Friday, December 20th at 6:30 p.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Matthew Tarr, pastor of High Point Baptist Church, Larksville, will serve as celebrant and leader of worship.

Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the Barber family.

Relatives and friends may join Bill’s wife Tammy and the family for a time of visitation and shared remembrances Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services.

Those unable to attend or who might wish to share online words of comfort and sympathy with Bill's family, are encouraged to do so here on his memorial page.  Thank You.
