William R. Check

     Mr. William R. Check, 69, a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, passed into Eternal Life the evening of Tuesday, May 23rd, 2023 in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following a prolonged illness.

     Born on Saturday, December 12, 1953 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of two sons to the late William J. and Rita (Shatkoski) Check.

     Educated in the city schools, he was a 1971 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School.  He later furthered his education by attaining a Bachelor's Degree in history from then Wilkes College.

     Prior to his retirement in 2020, Mr. Check was a well-known and respected clerk at the United States Postal Office Pittston branch.

     Above all else, Bill is remembered as being a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather to his adoring family.  His presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

     He and his wife, the former Mary Catherine Nallon, celebrated forty-four years of married life together.

     He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph D. Check on June 14, 1997.  Sadly two months later on August 31, the family would bid farewell to his father, William J. Check.  His mother, Rita (Shatkoski) Check passed on September 24, 2000.

     Left to cherish his memory in addition to his beloved wife Mary Catherine at home, are the couple's sons, Matthew D. Check and his wife Joy of Pittston Township and William P. Check along with his wife Holly of Shavertown;  Grandchildren, Maddox and Stella Check; Several former co-workers, neighbors and dear friends.

     Per his previous request, funeral services for Mr. Check will be held privately and at the convenience of his family with no formal visitation.
