It is with heaviness in our hearts, yet a spirit of thanksgiving to Almighty God that we announce the passing of Mr. William E. Drevitch, 68; formerly a lifelong resident of North Wilkes-Barre, more recently a resident of Wesley Village, Pittston. Bill passed peacefully Saturday the afternoon of May 25th in the Partridge-Tippet Nursing Center at Wesley Village; where he had resided for the past ten years due to health complications.
Born during Christmastime in 1955; Bill was welcomed as the eldest child to the late Edward W. and Marie S. (Buynak) Drevitch on Tuesday, December 20th of that year.
Raised and educated in the Roman Catholic faith, Bill was a graduate of both the former Sacred Heart Slovak Parochial School of North Wilkes-Barre and a 1973 graduate of the former Bishop Hoban High School. He furthered his education by taking courses at the Wilkes-Barre Business College. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from then College Misericordia, Dallas in 1991. At graduation ceremonies, he was distinguished as the "Adult Learner of the Year" for 1991.
In his youth and when his sons were still growing, he took an active role in their lives serving as coach to their teams in the North End Little League and Sacred Heart Basketball leagues.
His professional career began with the A. Rifkin Company in Hanover Township. He later took employment with the Keystone Coca Cola Company where he served some thirty years, holding the title of risk manager at the time of his formal retirement.
He and his wife, the former Linda (Sabol) Drevitch would have celebrated their forty-seventh wedding anniversary this June 18th.
As a couple they have endured many crosses during their marriage including the passing of both sets of parents; Edward and Marie Drevitch, Emil and Irene Sabol; and the untimely passing of their sons, Edward W. and Marc E. Drevitch. Most recently, the family bid farewell to Bill's sister-in-law, Lorraine M. (Sabol) Healey.
Left to embrace all the wonderful memories they keep of Bill in addition to his beloved wife and caregiver Linda of Wyoming are the couple's son, the Reverend Michael S. Drevitch, Falls; currently serving as Parochial Vicar of Corpus Christi and Saint Barbara Parishes; granddaughter, Haylee Lynn Drevitch, Naples, Florida; Brothers Kenneth Drevitch and his wife Jeannine J. of Wilkes-Barre; Brian Drevitch and his wife Michelle of Miners Mills; Sister, Susan Kopko and her husband Christopher of Laflin; Several nieces, nephews, former colleagues and dear friends.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge Bill’s care team at Wesley Village, along with Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the concern and compassion shown them in his final days.
Funeral services for Bill will be conducted on Saturday, June 1st at 10:00 a.m. in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. Bill's son, the Reverend Michael S. Drevitch along with the Reverend Monsignor John J. Sempa, pastor will serve as concelebrants.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to join the family for visitation and shared remembrances directly at church Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of floral tributes, the Drevitch family would be honored if those wishing to make a monetary donation in Bill’s memory kindly give consideration to the Social Concerns Committee of Corpus Christi / Saint Barbara Parish, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston, PA 18643.
